Teaching Methods

The course blends lectures and interaction with students. A guide and a variety of exercises will be made available.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the semester, students will be able to understand and use bibliographic indications in German and, with the help of a dictionary, the core of a medium difficulty legal text. Basic knowledge of German geography, history and culture will be provided along with geography, history and culture of other German-speaking countries.

General competencies:

Basic knowledge of German language are recommended (Level A1.1 of the Common European Framework of reference for languages, or 100 h classes at least).

Syllabus

The course includes two main topics:

1. Introduction to the grammar of reading by focusing upon structures and phrases that are frequently used in legal texts:

A) Introductory note about Germany: geography, history, language. The German-speaking countries.

B) The legal and political system: historical perspective, constitution

C) German Law: tradition and current situation, main branches of German Law

D) Law education in Germany.

Assessment
Continuous assessment is carried out in the following way: - Participation inclass and in the assigned works (25%) - one written test in class (50%); -One oral presentation (25%): 100.0%
