Teaching Methods

Given the practical nature of the curricular unit, the working sessions will be moments of debate open to the whole class. All the difficulties that have arisen (by systematic confrontation of different translation suggestions) will be problematized, and the best solutions will be put forward. As the assessment will be continuous, students will have to prepare translations autonomously, in addition to participating in classes.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the semester, students should have improved their level of both languages, the capacity to recognize different levels of language, also in both languages, and the capacity to analyze the similarities and differences between both languages. They should be able to elaborate increasingly demanding translations based on texts of increasing difficulty.

Syllabus

As this is an essentially practical seminar, various subjects adjusted as far as possible to current events will be addressed. When selecting the texts emphasis will be given to journalistic texts, but also to academic texts and literary texts. These texts will require solid knowledge, particularly at a civilisational and linguistic level. Students are advised to consult the French press regularly (Le Monde, Libération, Le Nouvel Observateur, L'Express, etc.).
