Sufficient knowledge of English and Portuguese to enable active participation in the seminars.

Teaching Methods

Interactive methods, involving the discussion of translations composed individually and in groups, with and without time limits, as well as analysis of published translations.

Learning Outcomes

This seminar enables students to

1. acquire advanced grammatical and lexical competence in both source and target languages;

2. expand their stylistic repertoires by translating a wide variety of texts;

3. apply the theoretical issues explored in the seminars of the 1st semester to practice.

Syllabus

Analysis, discussion and translation of various types of texts, including travel writing, interviews, academic essays, newspapers (essentially editorials and articles related to culture), chronicles, web pages, lyrics and subtitles.
