Recommended Prerequisites

The pre-requirements of this course are those corresponding to the application for the MSc course CMM.

Teaching Methods

Lessons and contact hours will be arranged as follows:

Lectures (30 h): Presentation of basic concepts and examples

Tutorial lectures(22.5h) Work out of assignments.

Occasionally students are invited to attend lectures by visiting specialists.

Learning Outcomes

The course extends and applies the basic concepts of structural mechanics and material behavior to the situation of seismic design of structures. The main purpose of the course is the theoretical development and application to practical situations in the field of seismic analysis and design of structures, with particular emphasis on situations on steel and composite building structures.

The course program is developed in accordance with the following basic objectives:

- Review basic concepts of dynamic analysis of structures including the linear and non-linear response of one degree of freedom systems.

- Introduce the concepts of seismology, seismic risk and seismic modeling

- Introduce basics of structural design and modeling of earthquake-resistant buildings in accordance with Eurocode 8

- Apply seismic modeling and design to case studies.
