The evaluation will be done through a monograph work to be delivered after the end of the last class. Students must attend to a minimum of 75% of the classes.

It is intended in this course to give an updated overview on how skeletal muscle adapts to various situations such as during and after exercise.

Myogenesis. Classification and physiology of skeletal muscle fiber.

Adaptation of muscle to exercise that cause injury (eccentric exercise)

Mechanisms of hypertrophy and atrophy. Aging of the muscle.

The adaptation of skeletal muscle fibers to exercise and immobilization.

Skeletal muscle as an endocrine organ. Relationship with adipose tissue.

The relationship of skeletal muscle to the tendon.
