Teaching Methods

Theoretical Classes: exposition of matters and presentation of illustrative examples taking recourse to data show.

Practical Classes: resolution of practical exercises that illustrate and complements the matters presented in the theoretical classes.

Learning Outcomes

Overall objectives

Students should be able to do exploratory analysis of data using numerical and graphical methods, so that the most relevant aspects may be identified, with potential use in Management and Economics. He should understand concepts and be able to do some calculations concerning probabilities.

Specific objectives

Characterization of the distribution of a statistical variable with the aim at taking decisions. Analysis of the relation between two statistical variables. Relations between the values of one or more statistical variables. Knowledge of basic definitions and results on probabilities.

Generic competencies

Capacity for: analysis and synthesis, oral and written communication, computing skills, problem solving, applying knowledge in practice.

Specific competencies

Ability to: do logic and deductive thinking, use intuition to solve problems, use graphical representations to interpret results, resume and take conclusions on the data so as to make decisions.
