Syllabus

Empires, States and Nations. The awakening of modernity. Science, philosophy and politics. Characteristics and reasons behind Eurocentric thinking. The imperialism of European superpowers and the Great War. Liberal democracies, dictatorships and the Soviet Union. Europe and the Cold War. From national self-centeredness to the convergence of economic interests; in search of an organization and the road to “European Union”. Expansion and crisis in the communist world up to the fall of the Berlin Wall. European challenges at the end of the 20th century.
