Recommended Prerequisites
Theoretical and practical knowledge of basic computer usage, covered by the syllabus of information technologies disciplines of high school courses.
Teaching Methods
The course unit is given using both expositive and participative methods, in interactive classes given in a computer lab. Whenever possible, the resolution of practical cases will be used.
Learning Outcomes
This curricular unit develops skills for using information technology in practice. By completing this unit the student should be capable of:
- Using the Excel software at an advanced level
- Organizing data in the spreadsheet aiming at problem resolution
- Understanding the role of macros in Excel
These learning outcomes contribute to develop several generic skills, namely use of computer tools, problem solving, information interpretation and information management.

2. Use of the Excel spreadsheet
- Operators and functions for arithmetic calculations, logical operations, text manipulation, basic descriptive statistics, value lookup, and conditional functions.
- Organization, formatting and data validation.
- Charts.
- Dynamic tables and charts.
- Macros.
