Intermediate Microeconomics

Recommended Prerequisites

Solid knowledge of microeconomic analysis, mathematical analysis and econometric methods is highly advisable.   

Teaching Methods

The main propositions are shown in class using either the blackboard or powerpoint. The students will have access to handouts for specific topics as well as specific bibliographic references to complement class presentation. After each lecture, there will be a set of exercises to be solved in the following week. Four articles/reports will be selected for presentation and discussion by groups of students. The material will be mainly extracted from Portuguese regulatory agencies, and students will have to show their understanding of the main aspects contained in the article/report.  

Learning Outcomes

Students are expected to: 1) derive the main decision rules of consumers and firms in a market economy; 2) discuss the properties of a competitive equilibrium; and 3) discuss the decision making in non-cooperative games.
