Teaching Methods

Students participate in classes with the review of the daily press (Press Centre). Also make an oral presentation of reports appropriate to the objectives of uc. Must make written briefs and oral reports of invited guests, (3 workshops), as well as excerpts from movies or DVDs about contemporary Portugal. Should develop reading papers of texts presented in class. Finally, organize a portfolio about contemporary issues, including aspects of personal involvement with the community (associations, voluntary, self-help and entrepreneurship).

- Study of the sociopolitical structure and changes in Portugal over the twentieth century

 

Specific Objectives

- Analysis of the structure of Portuguese society (the late modernization)

- Processes of decomposition socio-professional (New State after the war; deruralization country )

- Processes and social, political and cultural changes in Portugal (migration, decolonization, democracy)

- National identity and European integration

- The current crisis in everyday life (families, employment, rights, social struggle)

 

Generic skills

- Understanding and analysis of the major processes of change in Portugal

- Formulate investigative hypotheses about the contemporary reality

- Drilling of critical thinking in everyday reading

 

Specific Skills

- To produce bibliographic selection of Portuguese society

- To review and discuss journalistic information about Portuguese society

- To produce reports about specific national domains
