Teaching Methods

Presentation of the fundamental theoretical contents. Consulting and analysis of most of the norms included in the ANS. The presentation of the main concepts is accompanied by a discussion of individual cases illustrative of the options included in the ANS. It is intended that students apply the knowledge acquired in the discussion of case studies.

In this course unit, assessment includes the standard regime: final examination according to FEUC’s normal rules.

Learning Outcomes

Financial Accounting (FA) course unit has as its main objective to provide an up-to-date and rigorous training, allowing students a good theoretical and practical command of the latest standards in the accounting field. In view of the recent entry into force of the Portuguese Accounting Normalization System (ANS), this course unit aims at standardizing the academic and professional competencies of students with different levels of knowledge.

FA course unit will seek to describe the accounting harmonization process in recent decades, in conjunction with the reforms that have taken place at European and international level, in order to ensure the comparability of financial information between all entities. Thus, it seeks to give a deep knowledge on ANS conceptual structure and, at the same time, to deepen some accounting subjects concerning the activity’s periodization in the context of the ANS and the IFRS/IAS. It is also important to present some special cases within the ANS.
