Teaching Methods
Exposition of the syllabus main topics with a focus on practical applications and on the use of basic statistical tools. Students are requested to write a small paper using the available information on public databases.
Learning Outcomes
The main purpose of this curricular unit is to introduce students on the conduction of applied economic studies. One expects that the student, in the end of this curricular unit, is capable of:
1. To identify, select and collect statistical data from proper databases;
2. To apply some descriptive statistics tools on the study of the economic variables
3. To interrelate different economic variables and interpret results from an economic point of view
4. To calculate index numbers, compare and analyze them and their evolution;
5. To explain and use the relevant rules of economical writing and data presentation;
6. To write and verbally present economic texts.
