Recommended Prerequisites

Knowledge of Anthropometry, Physiology and Biomechanics. Basic knowledge about sport training open the possibility to enlarge the dominion of studies to reach a higher level of coaching.

Teaching Methods

The teaching methodologies combine the expositive lectures with field work, divided by practice observation, and analysis of planning documents. Video resources and planning software are widely used to train the students in near-to-reality situations.

Learning Outcomes

The unit aims to provide the student with the knowledge and competencies needed to plan, manage and assess the training loads in specialization and competitive contexts.

Syllabus

1)Concepts and goals of sport training. Training as an adaptive process. Training factors. Bouchard and matveev models.

2)Fundamentals of sport training: biologic, pedagogic and methodologic. The training load: definition and quantification. Monitorizing the training: Banister and Foster models.

3)Planning as a strategy. Planning and periodization. Organizing the time for an optimal adaptation.

4)Theories and models: Matveev, Verkhoshansky, Bondartchuk, systems theory.

5) Annual plan. Cycles inside the plan. Evolution of periodization in function of the changes in competitive sport. High performance sport and periodization.

6)Sport shape: evolution of the curbe, and of the training load. Short term cycles and preparation to compete. Individual and team sports.

7) Microcycles: dynamics of the training load and of recovery. Relevant parameters, qualitative and quantitative. Combining different cycles in long term plan.

8) The rationalization of the means for training: importance and limits. Model and preparation of High Performance.
