Teaching Methods
Teaching methodology is based on theoretical and practical classes where students are supposed to have an active participation and solving several exercises. Theorectical lectures combine exposition of economic intuition combined with graphical and mathematical exposition and proofs of important results.
Learning Outcomes
1. calculate growth rates, convergence rates and timings, levels of income, the human development index; and different measures of poverty; draw lorenz curves and compare them; interpret Gini Indexes [this LO contributes to LO 3 of the programme]
2. Apply the concepts of steady-state, transitional dynamics and convergence in different models of economic growth;
3. Recognize the main engines of growth (proximate causes of growth) and the determinants of growth and income per capita in different models of economic growth;
4. Link demographic transition with the take-off and the different stages of economic growth throughout history, explaining the mechanisms in presence;
5. Recommend measures and policies which may enhance prospects of growth and development of countries 2 to 5 contribute to LO 1 of the programme.
