Recommended Prerequisites

It is recommended as background knowledge competences in the field of general sociology, sociological theories, political sociology and political science.

Teaching Methods

Starting from the concept of active teaching, it is proposed to alternate between oral presentations by the teacher and to encourage reflection by students from the starting materials distributed to the classes.

Learning Outcomes

Overall objectives:

Political phenomena have been studied by many different disciplines, such as philosophy, ethics, political theory and political sociology. Within the discipline of Political Theory II, is part from a broad conception of political phenomena marked by interdisciplinary and thematic structure.

Specific competencies and objectives:

-identification of different disciplines in the analysis of political phenomena aiming to sensitize students to develop interdisciplinary and integrated approaches of politics, government and power.

-study of some of the classic paradigms of political theory and to the constitution of different schools of political thought

-conceptual framework of political ideas divided between classical ideas (State, freedom, equity etc) and new concepts (human rights, difference, terrorism etc.).

 Generic competencies

Detailed acquisition knowledge about a set of schemes structural to the analysis of the importance of political theory.

Module I:Analysis of political phenomena
1.Approaches and perspectives of political phenomena: political theory, political philosophy, political ethic, political science and political sociology
2.The politics of State Nation to sub-politics
3.The changing relationship between state and civil society

Module II:Classic paradigms of political theory
1.The dynamics of the state and the civil society
2.The liberal state to the “State of disorganized capitalism”
3.The state of law principles
4.The principles of socio-political regulation and social conflict
5.The pluralist and neo-pluralist currents
6.Theory of elites
7.Marxism and neo marxism
8.Corporatism and neo-corporatism
9.The contractarian and neo contractarian theories
10.Communitarianism

Module III:Fundamental political concepts
1.Reflections on the notion of power: Sociopolitical theories of power
2.Classical concepts: state, freedom, equity, justice, democracy e citizenship
3.New concepts: human rights, difference, terrorism etc.
