Syllabus

The place of work in today’s societies and the debates around the autonomy of work relations and labor law vis-à-vis the tendencies of deregulation and “re-civilization” of the labor relation systems are not only an epistemological issue or a problem of the law system. At issue are differential political projects sensible to the tensions between left and right political ideologies or to models projecting a deeper labor democracy or neoliberal forms of labor relations. Revolving around these concerns, the main goal of this seminar is to analyze processes of transformation and crisis connected to labor relations from the perspective of social dialog and collective negotiation. The following topics will be studied: governing labor relations: (1) paradigm shifts and emerging debates; (2) transformation of individual and collective work relations: macro, meso and micro labor dynamics; (3) regulation, conflicts and participation and (4) globalization, decent work and collective voice.
