Teaching Methods

Initially, the main concepts and relevant information sources will be presented by the teacher using PowerPoint slides, after which students will elaborate one individual report to further analyze a topic of his/her choice, including the research methodologies used and the main results. These individual assignments could be presented to and discussed publicly with fellow students.

Learning Outcomes

Students should be able to recognize the double role of Information Technologies within an organization: as a general support tool and inducer of competitive advantages; as a managerial decision support tool. In order to achieve that, students should be able to identify and characterize the main types of organizational applications, as well as issues related with application portfolio planning. Students should also identify the main technological trends and how do they affect the organizations (competitive advantages). In this context, as future researchers in the area, students should be able to recognize the key scientific journals and conferences in the area, as well as the most used research methodologies, the main research topics and results (state of the art).
