Recommended Prerequisites

Training required in Numerical Methods, Statistical Methods, Hydraulics and Hydrology.

Teaching Methods

Lectures on theoretical aspects, presentation and discussion of examples of practical application, resolution of problems, and autonomous resolution of problems (by students). Tutorial classes for practical work.

Learning Outcomes

The objectives of this course are: to provide students with knowledge on hydrologic modeling techniques, for the analysis of available water resources, relevant to the identification of pressures on water resources and the protection and sustainable management and, in this context, also promote the acquisition of knowledge of specialized methodologies in the treatment and analysis of hydrological data.

Syllabus

1. Concepts and techniques of treatment and analysis of hydrologic data. Conventional and unconventional methods. Variability in time series. Trend and seasonality. Statistics of extreme maximum and minimum flow rates applied to precipitation and runoff.
2. Concepts and techniques for hydrological modelling. Deterministic and stochastic processes models.
3. Applications to the design of hydraulic works and the planning and management of water resources.
