Master in Engineering (or similar formation).

Teaching Methods

The teaching methodologies are based on theoretical-practical lessons with the exposure of theoretical concepts, immediately followed by their exemplification. Whenever it is feasible the theoretical-practical lessons are complemented with laboratorial practical lessons where are demonstrated experimental techniques for the assessment of properties, or the application of numerical models in resolving practical issues related with the modeling of structures or structural elements.

Learning Outcomes

This curricular unit intends to deepen and extend the knowledge acquired in the master courses regarding the mechanical behavior of structural materials. Development of solid knowledge on the material properties used in the structural analysis and design, for the most relevant Structural materials, is another main goal. Additional basic knowledge on the laboratory assessment of the materials properties and corresponding data processing is also intended. At a different level it is an important objective the acquisition of knowledge on the numerical modeling of the material behavior, aiming at its application in research.
