Teaching Methods

This course is organized around discussion classes of different methods of ethnographic research, and seminar sessions devoted to the presentation and discussion of 'work in progress' developed by students.

Assessment is based on assistance to classes (is required previous reading of the bibliography) and in the two written works presented by students.

Learning Outcomes

Understanding the links between methods and research techniques, theoretical approaches and ethnographic contexts;

Articulation work techniques with subjects, images and artifacts;

Selection of ethnographic research techniques depending on specific cases.

Syllabus

The course is organized in case studies exemplifying the different methods of ethnographic research, based on links between methods and research techniques, theoretical approaches and ethnographic contexts. Variations in use of participant observation, multisited ethnographies, use or analysis of film, photography, images and objects takes into account different contexts.
