Teaching Methods

T Classes: used to present concepts and models. Slides containing key topics, diagrams, images, and videos are used. Simple examples are used for illustration.

S classes: case studies are explored by the students to understand the complexities of real cases. This approach is supported on two components - analysis and presentation and discussion with peers.

Learning Outcomes

On completing this course the student will have acquired the knowledge and competencies required to analyse, specify, design, and manage on-line products or services supported on social a value networks. In particular, the student will become acquainted with the theories and models supporting these networks and will develop the competencies to explore them in specific situations, such as network governance, electronic business, multimedia production of emerging recreational media.

1. Social network theories, value network theories and their relation to business models.

2. Small world theory; distributed indexing and search for information. Social factors, communities, sustained collaboration. Network dynamics.

3. Underlying technologies of social networks: blogs, wikis, emerging social mechanisms.

4. Case studies: network governance, electronic business, multimedia production of emerging recreational media.
