Recommended Prerequisites
Architectural Design I, Drawing I, Geometry, Construction I and II, Introduction to Architecture and the City.
Spatial Vision, Planimetric representation, Capacity of synthesis, Drawing, Capacity of investigation, Creativity, Accuracy, Self-demanding.
Teaching Methods
Individual design practice, assigning a drawing table per student in classroom;
Constant practice of sketching, either for collecting information, either for analysis and synthesis, or to communicate;
Field and group work for analysis of the exercise’s context;
Theorical-practical classes with information related to the current Design exercises;
Study visit to another city (1 day);
Study travel to another city or country (3 to 5 days);
Investigation report on an Architectural work that can be referential for the current design exercise.

To understand the relationship between Man, Architecture and Environment;
To understand space having man as its referent, both in his physical and cultural dimensions;
To develop and strength the tool’s capacity for Design;
To develop a Design methodology and to acquire competencies in analysis, synthesis, autonomous investigation, communication and representation;
To learn how to see, represent and interpretate Urban Space;
To understand the interdependence of shape and meaning between Architecture and City;
To develop and strength the Architectural Culture;
To develop and strength the knowledge of Building Technics.

1. Interpretative analysis in a real context of the Historical City;
2. Shape and meaning of Urban Spaces - rule and exception;
3. Fast and slow routes in the City - shape and measure;
4. Urban scale and Architectural Program or how position, meaning and measure of urban fabric signal the measure of form and the reason of function;
5. Human scale and Architectural Program or how to relate architectural space with the uses and dimensions of man;
6. Reshaping design of an unfinished urban context in the consolidated Historical City, including definition of a slow route between the high city and the river’s bank;
7. Architectural design of an Equipment building in continuous relation to the reshaped public space;
8. Construction basics - initiation to building technics applied to the Equipment building project.
