Recommended Prerequisites

There are no specific prerequisites because this course supplies basic knowledge on the area of geosciences.

Teaching Methods

Lectures are two aspects: presentation of the theoretical (expository) and problem solving with the support of the teacher. Guided tours of farms rock, workshops treating ornamental rock and rock testing laboratories. Visits to buildings to discuss the application methodologies and phenomena of alteration of the rock. Observe and criticize some conservation and restoration of the rock.

Learning Outcomes

To know the basics of minerals and rocks.

To understand the exploitation and processing of rocks (aggregates and dimension stone):

To evaluate the potential and limitations of the application of geological materials in construction;

To comprehend the “language” of the geologists and of the rock industry
