Teaching Methods

To achieve the objectives of the curricular unit, the various classes seek to combine different teaching strategies: the exposure of theoretical-methodological contents; analysis / debate around texts / selected topics, analysis of cases and audiovisual materials, practical lessons.

Learning Outcomes

The uc of CSDE intends to contribute to the analysis / critical understanding of the sociological and ideological foundations of different conceptions of inequality; the conceptual borders of the notions of injustice, inequality and difference, as well as their relevance in contemporary social-political rhetoric; the differentiation / complementarity between the notions of insecurity, vulnerability, poverty and exclusion; the assumptions inherent to different approaches to poverty / exclusion and respective socio-political processes of regulation; the factors that contribute, directly / indirectly, to multiple inequalities in access to and enjoyment of different social systems, and the multidimensionality of the problem of the homeless situation as example of exclusionary processes. These references constitute themselves as basic elements of the S. Work objectives / processes of intervention as a promoter of social justice and elimination / minimization of socio-economic inequalities.

- Conceptualization and explanatory theories of inequality

- Vulnerability, current dynamics and factors of instability

- Inequality, social injustice and suffering.


II. Poverty and Exclusion(s)

- Ideological and sociological approaches of poverty: classical and innovative readings

- The rhetoric of exclusion and potential ambiguities.

- Social contexts and populations: Modes of Life/ intervention processes


III. Social Contexts of Vulnerability and Exclusion: The Example of the homeless

- The situation of homelessness: renewed readings

- Different perspectives on the contemporary route emergency, maintenance and abandonment of the situation of homeless

- The multidimensionality of the phenomena of inequality in people who are in a situation of homelessness

- Implications of the multiple (s) experience (s) in a situation of homelessness in the path of life that they experience and of those that integrate its social network.
