Teaching Methods

The course unit is given using both expositive and participative methods, in interactive classes given in a computer lab. The students will also be given hand-outs and exercise sheets to be solved either on class in supervised group work or as home assignments.

The mixed evaluation is carried out through 2 practical tests (corresponding to 65% of final grade) during the semester and a written examination (equivalent to 35% of the final grade). Alternatively the practical components can be evaluated within the framework of the final exam.

Learning Outcomes

Overall objectives

Present an overview of the information technology field and its application, as well as the development of skills for their usage in practice.

 Specific objectives

The student should gain knowledge regarding the working of computers and of computer networks and be able to use the IT terminology. The student should also develop skills in applying and developing processes to problem solving; increase their problem solving capabilities using Microsoft Excel and Visual Basic for Applications.

 Specific competencies

The student should develop technological instrumental skills related to the ability to use spreadsheets and programming in analysis and information processing tasks.
