Teaching Methods
Theoretical lectures on the different topics of the curricular unit program.
Practical lectures that aim to deepen the study of program topics previously presented in theoretical lectures. Students form working groups, which are asked to solve, problematize and discuss a set of questions posed by teachers about chosen texts. The presence and active participation of students in the class are stimulated.
The periodical assessment requires 75 per cent attendance at the practical classes.
The Supplementary Exam is a written exam; there is no oral exam.
Learning Outcomes
The curricular unit aims to provide students with introductory knowledge of Economics, focusing on a set of fundamental topics, concepts and economic analysis instruments. It aims to contribute to a critical perspective on a set of contemporary economic problems that are relevant within the scope of International Relations.
After completing this curricular unit, students are expected to be able to:
• Understand that there are different ways of defining the object of study of this discipline
• Understand that, within the discipline, there are different schools of thought
• Understand who the main economic actors are and how they interrelate
• Know different methods of measuring the production of an economy
• Know different forms of markets
• Understand the role of the State in the economy and discuss the foundations of public intervention
• Understand the importance of the international economic dimension
