Teaching Methods
The curricular unit uses face-to-face teaching methodologies that involve the exposition of content in Portuguese and the presentation and discussion of documents and works, individually and in groups.
Learning Outcomes
The objectives of this curricular unit are to contribute to the development of skills for understanding the relationships between Physical Education, sport and health, for mastering health risk factors associated with exercise, for mastering the main methodologies for assessing health-related fitness in a school context, for the ability to use epidemiological instruments to characterize functional and metabolic fitness in a school context and for the ability to build a framework for prescribing and monitoring training in a school context, from a health perspective. In this way, the curricular unit contributes to the course objectives.

The program begins by providing Students with a conceptual understanding and the relationships established between Physical Education, sports and health, analyzing and discussing the following points:
1. Conceptualization: sports; physical fitness; health. Interconnections of concepts;
2. Components of physical fitness: cardiorespiratory; morphological; musculoskeletal; perceptive-kinetic; metabolic;
3. Epidemiology of exercise and health in a school context. PE cultural impact and the current social emphasis on health;
4. Levels of prevention: primordial; primary; secondary; tertiary; quaternary;
5. General and specific principles of sports training for health;
6. Physical activity and cardiovascular risk;
7. Assessment of physical fitness in a school context, application of tests and interpretation of results.
