General Objectives of the Course
The general aim of this program is to provide advanced training that will contribute to developing high-level skills in the production and translation of Nursing knowledge. The research developed must consider the specific aspects of theontology, epistemology, and methodology of the scientific area of Nursing, based on the priority research topics defined by the UICISA: E (https://www.esenfc.pt/pt/page/100004072/302) and its structuring projects.
Admission Requirements
a) Graduates in Nursing or equivalent, and
b) Holders of a master’s degree or legal equivalent in Nursing or health-related areas of knowledge, or holders of an academic or scientific curriculum of particular relevance recognized by the Scientific Council of the Ph.D. in Nursing as
attesting the ability to complete this cycle of studies.

The evaluation criteria in each Course will be established, in advance, by the Course Coordinator, making it available to the students. The evaluation will usea 0-20 range, in which grades higher than 9 are required to be approved in the Course. The evaluation can be either continuously or based in a final exam. Typically, the final grade takes into account various aspects, such scientific paper presentation and discussion, written tests and presentation and discussion of Grant proposals.
In the curricular units of "Thesis Project" and "Thesis" the student learning outcomes are assessed by a jury of experts from the scientific field addressed in the thesis. The evaluation method of each module appears in the respective curriculum evaluation form (FUC). The final grade is translated on a scale of 0 to 20, except for the "Thesis" that is evaluated qualitatively.
Learning Objectives and Intended Skills
– Generate relevant scientific contributions to the advancement of Nursing knowledge that support high-value interdisciplinary health care;– Critically analyze, assess and synthesize new and complex ideas about the object of Nursing research and consequent methodological diversity;
– Develop research on priority areas of Nursing research based on ethical principles and academic integrity;
– Develop the capacity for leadership and integration in national and international networks, considering the specificity of the nurses’ role in multidisciplinary health teams;
– Use methodologies of evidence synthesis and innovation implementation in clinical practice;
– Disseminate research outcomes in scientific events and indexed publications and communicate with diverse audiences.

The Phd in Nursing foresees one year of attendance of compulsory and optional curricular units, in a total of 60 ECTS, and three years of development of a phd thesis corresponding to 180 ECTS.
