Training Course - Systematic Review

General Objectives of the Course

The objectives of this course focus on deepening the methodological issues associated with the elaboration of a systematic review, including: (1) defining the research question; (2) identification, evaluation and extraction of the results of the studies to be included in the review; (3) evaluate the quality of the systematic review.

Admission Requirements

Graduate students or those in their last year of undergraduate studies from different academic areas and other researchers whose scientific or professional curriculum justifies the usefulness of this course for their training or activity. Require a B1 level of English knowledge in both reading and comprehension competencies (the candidate should be able to read scientific literature and the outputs of the software given in this course) [Cf. Common European Framework of Reference for languages] In addition, a Motivation Letter is required to all candidates.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Weighted average of the ratings obtained in the course activities. The final classification will be presented on a scale of 0-20 values.

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

It is intended that students: (1) master the different types of literature review that exist; (2) be able to formulate a research question that allows for the development of a systematic review; (3) know different electronic databases for conducting research; (4) master the use of boolean operators and curing characters to define the research strategy; (5) be able to use a bibliographic reference manager; (6) know different scales for evaluating the quality of articles (including systematic reviews); (7) master different strategies for synthesizing the results; (8) apply the PRISMA guidelines for the preparation of systematic reviews; (9) develop and implement a systematic review protocol.
