Japanese Language and Culture Course – level IV

General Objectives of the Course

Students will expand and reinforce their oral and written skills in Japanese. They will also gain a deeper understanding of Japanese culture in the world context, based on the didactic materials made available by the instructor.

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

Students will learn daily communication, will be able to talk about simple subjects as family, work and their city. They will understand single phrases and common expressions related with priorities. They will be able to communicate simple tasks and routines that demand simple and direct information exchange over common subjects. Students will learn more Kanji characters, combining Kanji, Hiragana and Katakana characters and their rules; they will be able to distinguish written and oral language; they will be able to read and understand simple articles; they will be able to write more complex texts regarding their studies, environment and immediate needs. They will continue to study grammatical particles, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, question pronouns, phrase structure with verbs, noun-modifiers, plain forms. Students will continue to study traditional Japanese culture, comparing the habits of younger generations, like going out, Japanese companies and their products, health knowledge, society rules like receiving and giving gifts.
