Japanese Language and Culture Course – level II

General Objectives of the Course

The main objective of this course is learning the Japanese language and culture both written and spoken, in the context of everyday situations and cultural life. This first level in learning Japanese language and culture should result in the acquisition of basic skills for oral and written communication in usual everyday situations.

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

Students will be able to understand and use daily and personal expressions and simple phrases that will allow them to accomplish their goals; to introduce themselves and others; to ask questions and give answers. They will be able to communicate in a simple way if the interlocutor speaks slowly and willingly. Students will learn basic Kanji characters and their rules. Knowing Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji characters they will be able to broaden their vocabulary, they will learn to read small texts and to understand their meaning; to read applications/websites simple messages and to write emails. Students will learn more grammar particles, nouns, question pronouns, phrase structure with suki, dekimasu, imasu and arimasu, present, past and future tense verbs, adjectives I and Na in present and past, numbers and how to count objects. Students will learn about Japanese habits, jobs and their schedules, seasonal events, holidays, several aspects of city life, regions typical products and touristic places.
