Master in Sport Training
General Objectives of the Course
1 – The master in Sport Training (MTD) aims to promote a solid scientific and pedagogical training in the specific area of Sports Training, associated to a set of values and aptitudes that will help the student to develop his/her activity of coach strongly committed with the scientific bases of the sports training, with the ethical principles and with the lifelong learning; 2 – This master program provides the acquisition of knowledge and deepening of specific skills that enhance the performance of the sports coaching mission in the different dimensions of planning, preparation, operationalization, evaluation/control and innovation in the training process, in the various phases of sports training and in differentiated contexts, including the sport for persons with disabilities; 3 - To contribute to the specialization of the sports coaches, regarding the processes of prevention of limiting episodes of sports practice, namely the sports injury, as well as the best practices in the injury’s recovery; 4 – The MTD promotes the acquisition of updated conceptual and instrumental skills within the scope of Research in Sport Sciences.Admission Requirements
Candidates to this master course need to fit the following requisites: a) diplom in a Portuguese higher education institution; b) diplom in an European higher education institution that is organized according to Bologna principles; c) diplom obtained in other systems that are recognized by the scientific committee of the FCDEF-UC; d) candidates with a professional curriculum that is considered relevant by the scientific committee; d) holders of a school, scientific or professional curriculum, which is recognized as attesting the capacity to carry out this cycle of studies by the Scientific Council of the FCDEF-UC (see below). Candidates must obtain a curriculum evaluation equal to or higher than 10 values.
The application evaluator evaluates the candidates' curriculum, assigning a rating on a scale from 0 to 20 in criteria i) to iv) and the respective weights: i) Academic CV, considering the final classification of the course (s) taken (s) by the candidate (10%); ii) Relevance of the course (s) taken for the scientific area of the study cycle to which are applying (10%); iii) Scientific curriculum, considering the participation of candidates in research projects, number and scientific quality of publications (monographs, book chapters, articles in periodicals), prizes and similar elements, as long as they are activities in the scientific area of the cycle of studies in question (70%); iv) Professional curriculum, considering the duration and nature of the professional functions performed in the scientific area of the study cycle in question (10%).
2) In subparagraphs a), b) and c) of nº1, applications from graduates in related scientific areas are accepted, however, there will be a preferential criterion in relation to the scientific area of Sports Sciences.
3 - The recognition referred to in paragraphs b) to d) of nº1 has the effect of only accessing the cycle of studies leading to the master's degree and does not confer on the holder the equivalence to the degree of graduate or the recognition of this degree.

As assessment is a pedagogical activity inseparable from the teaching process, its aim is to establish the students' competencies and knowledge, their critical sense, ability to recognize and resolve problems, as well as their written and oral presentation skills. Students may only register for exams for classes they are currently registered for under the terms of the University of Coimbra Academic Regulation. The following are examples of assessment items: Oral or written exams, written or practical work, individual and group projects that may require an oral defense, as well as class participation. Assessment for each class may include one or more of the above mentioned items. Grading is based on a scale of 0 to 20 and a grade of 10 is required to pass. Whenever the grade comprises more than one item, the final grade is calculated by taking into account the relative weight of each item according a formula published in the course outline under the terms of the UC Academic Regulation.Learning Objectives and Intended Skills
The course fosters specialized knowledge in the field of sports training. Throughout the course, the MTD student should be able to: 1 – Develop technical and pedagogical skills in diverse contexts, using in an integrated way, the scientific knowledge associated to the sports training; 2 - Use instruments, in an appropriate and judicious way, to monitor, evaluate and control the training process, in order to guarantee an adequate performance throughout the development of the sports preparation process; 3 - Acquire scientific research skills that allow the student to deal with new situations in the scope of training, mobilizing research methodologies appropriate to a better understanding of sports training phenomena; 4 - It governs its activities by ethical and deontological principles based on the evaluation and reflection of the social implications and responsibilities resulting from its individual and collective decisions; 5 - Develop autonomous lifelong learning and critical thinking skills that facilitate their integration in multidisciplinary teams / research projects carried out within the scope of sports training.Course Coordinator(s)
