General Objectives of the Course

Introduce the student to the area of Computational Biology, providing the student with a comprehensive and integrated view of the scientific, technological and technical topics associated with Computational Biology.

First or second cycle students in Biology, Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Medical Chemistry, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Physical Engineering, Technological Physics, Applied Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Computer Science, Informatics Engineering, Electrotechnical and Computational Engineering or in similar fields.

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

Practical experience with the use and application of computational methods in the investigation of biological systems, using, for example, computational modeling tools in structural biology in the development of new drugs or in the dynamics of biomolecules, using computational tools for processing, storage and manipulation of data from different sequencing platforms and public repositories, and/or developing mathematical and computational models to simulate the development of pathologies, both at the intra-cellular and tissue levels.
