Specialization Course in Law Case

General Objectives of the Course

The Case Law Programme is part of a prospective Case Law School created by the Faculty of Law of University of Coimbra. The objective is one of blending the indispensable theoretical dimension of Law with the pratical perspective stemming from judicial case law. By adopting a case method approach, the Programme seeks to define the juridical principles relevant for examination of case law. The Programme aims at providing students with a view on courts’ experience in dealing with the various legal and doctrinal branches, in order to train them for the legal professions and the development of senior research. The Programme includes two branches in order to meet the specific needs of students or legal professionals connected with common, or administrative and tax jurisdiction, while bearing in mind the specifics of special courts and the alternative means of dispute resolution.

Graduation in Law (if the candidates outnumber the vacancies available, seriation will be done according to the final grade obtained).

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Final grading reflects the grade obtained after elaboration and oral presentation of the research paper. The final grade is calculated according to a 0-20 grading system, under the following qualitative classifications: Fair (10-13), Good (14-15); Very Good (16-17), Excellent (18-20).

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

At the end of Programme students are expected to be able to resort to the judicial practice relevant to solve concrete cases, and critically examine and reflect upon court rulings.
