Training Course in Reading and Writing for Portuguese Descendants

General Objectives of the Course

The course builds upon the students’ prior knowledge of Portuguese, which results from a predominantly aural contact with the language, and aims to develop their language skills, especially reading and writing, while simultaneously providing insights into Portuguese geography, society and culture

Minimum age: 16. Beginner level language proficiency in Portuguese

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Qualitative scale (Excellent, Very Good, Good, Satisfactory); Quantitative scale (0 to 20). (Under 10: Insufficient; 10-13: Satisfactory; 14-15: Good; 16-17: Very Good; 18-20: Excellent).

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

At the end of the course, students should be able to:
- understand simple texts about familiar subjects
- locate specific information in different text types
- write simple and coherent texts on subjects of their interest
- describe events, express feelings and wishes, for example in personal letters
- understand and use the grammatical structures needed for the above aims
- understand and use vocabulary relevant to the topics of the course
