Master in Teaching of Physical Education in Basic and Secondary School
General Objectives of the Course
The master aims to improve scientific knowledge in basic sciences of physical activity, developed in a specialized educational training context. Course scope involves PE didactics; curriculum development; school management and administration, and the application of knowledge in unfamiliar professional situations, with developing abilities of self-learning and problem-solving skills, along with educational research. As a specialized training for professional intervention in elementary and secondary PE teaching, this course fosters student competencies in: educational research processes; development of action-research projects, curriculum projects and pedagogical actions suitable to different contexts; the growth of professional ethics, based on a self-reflection about the consequences of individual and collective decisions; and lifelong learning skills development, based on experience, research and teaching supervision.Admission Requirements
The general conditions and specific rules of enrollment in study leading to master's degree are governed by the following guidelines: - A general condition for entering the field of oral and written English language; - Specific rules leading to the master degree will be determined by the Scientific Council in accordance with paragraph 2 of Article 17 of Decree-Law 74/2006 of 24 March, with respect to paragraph 3, a) and b) and paragraphs 4, 5 and 6 of Decree-Law No. 43/2007 of 22 February 2007. May apply for access to the course of study leading to a Master's degree: - Holders of a degree of 1st Cycle or legal equivalent of the areas corresponding to those required in the notice of opening; - Holders of a foreign academic degree conferred following a 1st Cycle of studies organized in those areas, according to the principles of the Bologna Process by a State acceding to this process, if they have 120 ECTS in the areas of Education physics and Sports and certify proficiency of written and oral English language. - Holders of a foreign academic degree, those areas that are recognized as meeting the objectives of the bachelor degree by the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Sport Science and Physical Education, University of Coimbra.

Deepening of scientific knowledge in the basic sciences of physical activity, developing them in the context of specific didactics of physical education and school management, applying them in unfamiliar professional situations, articulating and integrating the capabilities of self-learning and problem-solving skills with in-depth educational research. The Master course ends with a report of internship, the student submits evidence in public, a critical report based on internship conducted. The report is evaluated by a jury.
