Master Degree in Law
General Objectives of the Course
The Scientific Masters, focused in 7 specialisation areas, with a duration of 4 semesters and 120 ECTS, as well as numeri clausi, is composed by an annual specialisation course and an annual thesis. The specialisation course is predominantly composed by annual studies units which favour seminars and the evaluation of pupils through working papers. The annual dissertation aims to attain excellence levels in research.The Scientific Master is awarded in the following areas of specialization:
Civilist-Legal Sciences;
-Legal-Criminal Sciences;
-Legal and Economic Sciences;
-Legal and Business Sciences;
-Legal-Philosophical Sciences;
-Legal-Historical Sciences;
-Legal and Political Sciences.
The area of Legal Sciences Civilist consists of the following:
-Mention in Civil Law;
-Mention in Civil Procedural Law.
The area of Legal and Business Sciences consists of the following:
-Mention in Business Law;
-Mention in Employment Law.
The area of law and politics consists of the following:
Mention-in Administrative Law;
Mention-in Constitutional Law;
Mention in-Law of the Land, Urbanism and Environment;
Mention-in Tax Law;
-Mention in Public International Law and European.
Admission Requirements
The access to the course of study leading to master's degree is done by submitting an application, the deadline set by the Director of the School. May apply to the course leading to a Master's degree:
- Holders of a degree in law or legal equivalent;
- Holders of a foreign academic degree conferred following a 1. Cycle of studies organized according to law the principles of the Bologna Process by a State acceding to this Process;
- Holders of a foreign academic degree in law, recognizing that the Scientific Council meet the objectives of a degree;
- Holders of an academic, scientific or professional Scientific Council recognizes that the ability to attest to this cycle of studies.
- Candidates for the course of study leading to master's degree must have a final mark set by the Scientific Council billion annually, by 31 October.

As assessment is a pedagogical activity inseparable from the teaching process, its aim is to establish the students' competencies and knowledge, their critical sense, ability to recognize and resolve problems, as well as their written and oral presentation skills. Students may only register for exams for classes they are currently registered for under the terms of number 6 of article 4 of the University of Coimbra Pedagogical Policy. The following are examples of assessment items: Oral or written exams, written or practical work, individual and group projects that may require an oral defense, as well as class participation. Assessment for each class may include one or more of the above mentioned items. Grading is based on a scale of 0 to 20 and a grade of 10 is required to pass. Whenever assessment includes more than one item, the final grade is calculated by taking into account the relative weight of each item according to a formula published in the course outline under the terms of number 2 of article 7 of the UC Pedagogical Policy.Learning Objectives and Intended Skills
The Scientific Masters favours research in specialised legal areas, the development of the own ability to theoretical construction as well as the conception of new solutions and interpretation of complex problems in multidisciplinary realities. Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of prior learning is carried out in accordance with the Academic Regulation of the University of Coimbra.Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The master's degree in Law is granted to the one who obtains approval to 120 or 90 ECTS, distributed by 4 or 3 semesters, as it is a Scientific Master's degree or a Master's degree in Legal and Forensic Sciences.
The cycle of studies conducive to the degree of master integrates a course of specialization (60 ECTS) and a dissertation of scientific nature, that corresponds to 60 ECTS in the Scientific Master's degree, or to 30 ECTS in the Master's degree in Legal and Forensic Sciences.
Access to Further Studies
The conclusion of the 2nd Cycle of Law Studies allows the access to the 3rd Cycle of Studies in several areas of knowledge.Study Programme
