General Objectives of the Course

This formation stems from a need to provide teachers in a complementarity of their training, according to the requirements of the Teaching Career Statute of Preschool and Basic and Secondary Education redefined by Decree-Law No. 75/2010 , regarding "the methods of supervision of teaching practice as a way to ensure quality of service provided educational and career development." Moreover, it constitutes a formative approach proposed recent changes to the forms of work in school and professional requirements associated with them, particularly in relation to monitoring and evaluation system of teacher performance. The organization of the course is based on a methodology that focuses on professional practice and embodied in a set of learning experiences geared to the pedagogical supervision, understood as a dialogical and reflective process of monitoring, regulation and development of pedagogical practices. The demand for curriculum design adopted in this perspective, a cast of integrating content appropriate to the skills that teachers must develop the level of pedagogical supervision, monitoring of teachers and early career development and performance of roles in the structures of educational guidance school. From the methodological point of view, the formation was carried out on an investigative and reflective, focused on solving practical problems under the supervision of teaching practice, performance appraisal, training of trainers and administration and research contextualized in school.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

As assessment is a pedagogical activity inseparable from the teaching process, its aim is to establish the students' competencies and knowledge, their critical sense, ability to recognize and resolve problems, as well as their written and oral presentation skills. Students may only register for exams for classes they are currently registered for under the terms of number 6 of article 4 of the University of Coimbra Pedagogical Policy. The following are examples of assessment items: Oral or written exams, written or practical work, individual and group projects that may require an oral defense, as well as class participation. Assessment for each class may include one or more of the above mentioned items. Grading is based on a scale of 0 to 20 and a grade of 10 is required to pass. Whenever assessment includes more than one item, the final grade is calculated by taking into account the relative weight of each item according to a formula published in the course outline under the terms of number 2 of article 7 of the UC Pedagogical Policy.

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

Upon completion of the course (a) must have developed teaching skills:
- Critical analysis and mobilization within the frameworks of supervision and training of teachers targeted for intervention and sustained innovation in school.
- Monitoring of the student and the teacher in an early stage and to support their integration and professional development.
- Design, promotion and management training programs focused on school.
- Training and supervision in relation to the identification of training needs and advising the training centers, organization and supervision of training processes and the performance of middle management positions.
- Performance evaluation of teachers, including the organization and development of evaluation processes in relation to the size professional, social and ethical development of teaching and learning, participation in school and community relations and development education and training throughout life.
- Development of action research in schools and design research projects designed for participation, reflection and improvement of teacher performance

Recognition of Prior Learning

According to the general legislation and to the dispatch in which the course was created, previously acquired knowledge is to be recognized as long as it has been validated by the Portuguese and European Higher Education systems. The legally competent body is to recognize it in a casuist way.
