General Objectives of the Course
"This program is defined by the deepening of the studies initiated by students at the 1st cycle of Art History and the 2nd cycle in Art and Heritage.Always in a multidisciplinary approach and confrontation between different knowledge, this program leads to a Phd degree and has the following goals:
To consolidate and deepen knowledge on this scientific area;
To develop appropriate mechanisms to do research projects with high autonomy, definition of scientific criteria and implementation capacity;
To stimulate the capacity of critical juncture between various scientific fields related to the History of Art;
To open new perspectives for an analysis sedimented between the levels of scientific theory and a specific heritage dynamics;
To encourage potential intervention in the areas of contemporary culture."

As assessment is a pedagogical activity inseparable from the teaching process, its aim is to establish the students' competencies and knowledge, their critical sense, ability to recognize and resolve problems, as well as their written and oral presentation skills. Students may only register for exams for classes they are currently registered for under the terms of number 6 of article 4 of the University of Coimbra Pedagogical Policy. The following are examples of assessment items: Oral or written exams, written or practical work, individual and group projects that may require an oral defense, as well as class participation. Assessment for each class may include one or more of the above mentioned items. Grading is based on a scale of 0 to 20 and a grade of 10 is required to pass. Whenever the grade comprises more than one item, the final grade is calculated by taking into account the relative weight of each item according a formula published in the course outline under the terms of number 2 of article 7 of the UC Pedagogical Policy.Learning Objectives and Intended Skills
1. Ability to analyse, in a transdisciplinary and problematizing way, the artistic object; 2. Ability to articulate structural concepts of the scientific area of art history and and capacity to use its own research methodology; 3. Domain, critically, the available literature on the selected thematic universe; 4. Capacity to signalize thematic areas that need clarification or new historiographical readings in order to contribute to scientific advance in the field of art history; 5. Ability to design and implement a research project within the scientific area of art history, respecting the requirements imposed by the standards of academic quality and integrity; 6. Ability to communicate with peers, academic world and society in general on the area of expertise, thus contributing to the sociocultural development.Course Coordinator(s)
