General Objectives of the Course
The studies’ plan was organized to accomplish the following general objectives:a) deepen and consolidate knowledge and competences already acquired in the 1st cycle of studies in order to qualify students to perform tasks such as planning, supervision, implementation and management of the Archeological activity;
b) acquire new knowledge and develop new competences which, in different contexts of Archaeology both in field work and in office/lab work, allow students to analyze and manage the different types of information, know how to handle complex and contradictory situations, assess issues and make decisions, give opinions and critically judge, design and develop projects, elaborate technical and scientific documents and convey knowledge to different audiences.
Admission Requirements
Candidates to the master’s degree in Archaeology and Territory may be:
a) holders of a Bachelor’s degree or legal equivalent;
b) holders of a foreign higher academic degree, that was awarded after accomplishing a 1st cycle of studies, which should be structured according to the principles of the Bologna Process in an adhering country to this Process;
c) holders of a foreign higher academic degree that is recognized to meet the objectives of the Bachelor’s degree by the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Humanities;
d) In duly justified cases, holders of a scientific or professional curriculum, which is recognized as attesting the capacity to accomplish this cycle of studies by the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Humanities.

As assessment is a pedagogical activity inseparable from the teaching process, its aim is to establish the students' competencies and knowledge, their critical sense, ability to recognize and resolve problems, as well as their written and oral presentation skills. Students may only register for exams for classes they are currently registered for under the terms of number 6 of article 4 of the University of Coimbra Pedagogical Policy. The following are examples of assessment items: written or practical work, individual and group projects that may require an oral defense, as well as class participation. Assessment for each class may include one or more of the above mentioned items. Grading is based on a scale of 0 to 20 and a grade of 10 is required to pass. Whenever assessment includes more than one item, the final grade is calculated by taking into account the relative weight of each item according to a formula published in the course outline under the terms of number 2 of article 7 of the UC Pedagogical Policy.Learning Objectives and Intended Skills
It is fundamental for the students to develop competences that will be made visible: a) In a wide knowledge and understanding of the problematic inscribed in a frame of different scales, and inherent to several fields of activity within the present archeological practices; b) In the use of the theoretical, methodological and practical knowledge acquired, both in the planning and development of a research project and in the recovery of data and interpretation of the field archeological register; c) In the dynamic integration, of the focus of their research, of the contributions from other scientific areas, using, for the matter multidisciplinary methodologies and information; d) In the acquisition of knowledge about the legal and organic frame of Archeology and Heritage; e) In the acquisition of an ethical, scientific and professional awareness; f) In the understanding of the role and social value of this discipline; g) In the ability of developing an autonomous and efficient education. h) In the creation of conditions for students to be able to practice the profession of Archaeologists, according to the conditions required for the exercise of this profession expressed in the regulation annexed to the Decree-Law no. 164/2014, of the 4th of November 2014.Course Coordinator(s)
