General Objectives of the Course

This course aims to develop students’ linguistic and cultural competencies to an intermediate level, promoting the autonomous use of Japanese in a range of contexts. The learning objectives are aligned with the B1.2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL), focusing on the development of comprehension, production, and interaction skills in everyday and, to some extent, specialized contexts. Students are expected to produce coherent and structured discourse, understand texts on familiar topics, and manage a variety of practical situations independently, particularly in immersive contexts in Japan. The course also aims to enhance fluency, strengthen argumentative skills, deepen awareness of language registers, and promote intercultural competence.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must be aged 16 years or over. Skills in Japanese at level B1.1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, or successful completion of the Advanced Japanese Language Practice Course – Level I in the last two years.

Final grade: 0-20 grade.

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

Comprehension (reception): Understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar topics related to work, school, and leisure; Identify the overall meaning and key information in texts and discourse of some complexity on social and cultural topics. Production (expression): Produce organized spoken and written texts on familiar topics, recounting experiences, describing situations, and expressing opinions; Present and justify opinions with simple reasons and explanations. Interaction: Participate, without prior preparation, in conversations on everyday topics, exchanging information and opinions; Respond appropriately to interlocutors, maintaining and developing interaction. Intercultural competence and autonomy: Deepen understanding of Japanese cultural practices and values, demonstrating intercultural awareness; Plan and manage their learning autonomously, using the Japanese language actively outside the classroom.
