General Objectives of the Course

General objective: To promote therapeutic communication skills that contribute to more humane, safe, effective and personcentred healthcare, in face-to-face contexts and in contexts mediated by technology. Specific objectives: O value therapeutic communication as an essential factor for the quality, safety and humanisation of care. To apply clinical communication strategies, such as agenda-setting, exploration, legitimisation and transition, in face-to-face consultations, teleconsultations or digital contacts. To demonstrate empathy and compassion towards patients, families and the healthcare team.

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

By the end, they should be able to: Recognise the importance of communication for the quality, safety and humanisation of care; Use verbal, non-verbal and paraverbal
communication appropriately; Establish relationships based on trust, respect, privacy and confidentiality; Apply person-centred clinical communication strategies, such as agenda-setting, FIFE, active listening, emotional validation and empathy; Communicate clearly, safely and empathetically in face-to-face, telephone, digital contexts (via telematic platforms, e.g. Zoom) and teleconsultation; to adapt communication to the
person’s emotional state and clinical contexto; To Participate in simulations, feedback, debriefing and peer learning.
