General Objectives of the Course

To equip healthcare professionals with the skills for the systematic approach to
prevalent geriatric syndromes, integrating clinical, functional, sensory, environmental, and iatrogenic determinants into clinical decision-making.To promote the adoption of early preventive and therapeutic evidence-based interventions aimed at reducing adverse events and improving functional outcomes in older adults.To develop competencies in critical appraisal and optimization of pharmacotherapy in older persons, with particular emphasis on identifying high-risk polypharmacy, potentially inappropriate medications, and implementing structured deprescribing processes.To strengthen the safety and quality of care provided to older adults through grounded, integrated, and function-centered clinical practice.
The course is part of the INNOV2CARE project, promoting digital competencies in education and clinical practice, applied to the assessment and intervention in geriatric syndromes.

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

Identify prevalent geriatric syndromes; Stratify prevalent geriatric syndromes according to their clinical, functional, sensory, environmental, and iatrogenic determinants, prioritizing risk and functional impact; Implement evidence-based preventive measures to reduce adverse events and negative outcomes; Apply initial evidence-based interventions appropriate to the clinical context including the critical use of digital tools and clinical decision-support algorithms; Evaluate pharmacotherapy in the elderly; Recognize situations of risky polypharmacy; Identify potentially inappropriate medications; Conduct structured and evidence-based deprescribing processes.
