Training Course: Service-learning for social inclusion

General Objectives of the Course

The aim is to promote increased knowledge and dissemination of experiences and
studies related to the application of the Project-Based Learning for Society (SL) teaching methodology, considered a fundamental element for inclusion and innovative learning development in the educational context. In this sense, the course aims to positively influence ways of learning and teaching, understanding the school's intervention as a generator of change in the surrounding environment, assuming the potential of the Service-Learning methodology as a determining factor for the conscious exercise of freedom and for the challenges of training autonomous and socially engaged citizens.

Admission Requirements

Primary and secondary school teachers from different levels of education and areas may enrol in the training course. Candidates will be ranked based on the following criteria: a) Current FCDEFUC cooperative teachers (groups 260 and 620); b) former cooperative teachers (groups 260 and 620); teachers from recruitment groups 110 (Primary Education – 1st Cycle) and 910 (Special Education); teachers performing duties/belonging to the School Group/Non-grouped School; b) performing duties in a Private and Cooperative Educational Institution.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The final classification is represented on a scale of 1 to 10 points, where: 1 to 4.9 points - Insufficient, 5 to 6.4 points - Regular; 6.5 to 7.9 points - Good; 8 to 8.9 points - Very Good; 9 to 10 points -Excellent.

The course will last 20 hours, spread over 3 days, and will consist of 3 lectures, 2 round tables and 2 workshops, of a theoretical and practical nature, in groups of at least 15 trainees. The course is designed to be attended in person (19 hours) and will also include 1 hour dedicated to the production of the assessment report (estimated time).

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

Upon completion of the course, trainees should be able to: i) Understand the concept and principles of Service Learning (SL) in regular education and higher education as an active learning methodology; ii) Learn about forms of intervention in SL and SLH; iii) Develop skills in diagnosis, planning and integrated promotion of the development of service-learning projects, geared towards inclusion and active citizenship; iv) Promote inclusion and the link between theory and practice through real projects with social impact; v) Foster civic values, responsibility and active citizenship.
