Japanese Language and Culture Course – level X
General Objectives of the Course
This course aims to develop students’ linguistic and cultural competencies to an intermediate level, enabling them to communicate with greater confidence and accuracy in Japanese across more diverse contexts. It seeks to promote fluency, the ability to formulate arguments, comprehension of different language registers, and intercultural awareness.The main objectives are:
To expand vocabulary and consolidate B1‑level grammatical structures;
To develop the ability to report experiences, describe situations, and express opinions clearly;
To promote understanding of more complex texts and speeches on social and cultural topics;
To encourage reflection on Japanese cultural practices and intercultural communication;
To foster autonomy in learning and active use of the language outside the classroom.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must be aged 16 years or over. Skills in Japanese at level XX of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, or successful completion of the Course in Japanese Language and Culture IX in the last two years

Continuous assessment requiring 75% attendance and the accomplishment of two assessment tests. Other elements are also taken into consideration, such as the participation of the student during the classes, the completion of homework, and tasks carried out throughout the course. At the end of each level, it is possible to request the issuance of the respective certificate provided that the student has obtained a successful assessment.Learning Objectives and Intended Skills
Students should be able to:– Speaking & Listening Comprehension:
Participate in spontaneous conversations with greater naturalness on everyday and personal-interest topics
Understand speeches in both informal and formal registers, recognizing communicative intentions
Express opinions, agree or disagree with simple justifications
– Reading & Writing:
Understand more complex texts such as opinion columns, feature articles, or blogs
Produce descriptive, narrative, and argumentative texts with clear structure
Write emails and messages appropriate for various social and professional contexts
– Sociocultural Interaction:
Recognize and apply cultural norms associated with social and professional situations in Japan
Reflect critically on aspects of Japanese culture and compare them with those of their home country
– Autonomy & Learning Strategies:
Develop strategies to expand vocabulary and improve listening comprehension outside the classroom
Monitor and reflect on their own progress using “Can‑do” descriptors
