Training Course: AIDUC – Education, Artificial Intelligence and Freedom

General Objectives of the Course

The AIDUC course (Interdisciplinary Approaches to Teaching) - Education, Artificial Intelligence and Freedom aims to provide accredited teacher training through the involvement of faculty members and researchers from the University of Coimbra. Its goal is to promote the sharing of scientific knowledge in order to positively influence ways of learning and teaching, by encouraging reflection on education as the enhancement of the human being as an intelligent entity; the role of the school as a key factor in the conscious exercise of freedom and in addressing the challenges of citizenship education; artificial intelligence as a tool in the service of human intelligence and ethics; and freedom as an exercise of citizenship—an imperative for the recognition of individual rights and duties, and for the appreciation of diversity, serving as a framework for educational action at a time when ethics is being questioned in various parts of the world. The university also has the mission of fostering a critical attitude in both teachers and learners, by integrating disciplinary areas and curricular content in a cross-cutting manner, with potential for adaptation and replicability.

Admission Requirements

Teachers, educators and trainee teachers of primary, secondary and pre-school education from all areas and levels of education may apply for the training course. The seriation of candidates is based on the following criteria:
a) performance of functions / belonging to a School Grouping / Non-Grouped School board;
b) performance of functions in a Private and Cooperative Education Institution.
Applications will be accepted from non-teaching candidates, depending on the number of vacancies after seriation of the teaching candidates.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The final classification is represented on a scale of 1 to 10 points, where: 1 to 4.9 points - Insufficient, 5 to 6.4 points - Regular; 6.5 to 7.9 points - Good; 8 to 8.9 points - Very Good; 9 to 10 points - Excellent.

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

The completion of the course should enable the trainees to: develop interdisciplinary work proposals, in which contents from different areas of knowledge are inserted, associating them to the students' daily life; develop diversified work forms and observation activities, which promote the questioning of reality and the integration of knowledge; organize teaching, foreseeing critical autonomy in the use of available information sources.
