Specialization Course - Communication and Bereavement in Palliative Care and End of Life

General Objectives of the Course

To provide relevant and up-to-date scientific and technical knowledge on the grieving process. To qualify professionals to provide individual care, family and other groups care in grieving processes. Develop diagnostic and intervention skills at different stages of life and in different contexts of grief. To acquire skills to intervene in grief in adults and children.

Integrated Bachelor's/Master's Degree Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Psychology, Social Work.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Qualitative scale: Approved/Not Approved. To achieve approval, attendance of at least 85% of school hours is mandatory.

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

Reflect on and justify the importance of palliative care and end-of-life care and grief, identifying specificities and present and future challenges;
To Know the evolution of experiences, needs and care models in grief and end of life, critically evaluating the decisions to be made and the existing scientific evidence;
Intervene effectively and timely with the patient and family throughout the course of the illness and grief, in various contexts and responding in a holistic and individualized way to their preferences and priorities;
To design and implement an end-of-life care plan of high quality and scientific rigor, being able to measure and interpret results of the impact of the care provided.

The recognition of prior learning is carried out according according to the Credits for Previous Learning and Work Experience Policy of the University of Coimbra.
