Specialization course on Fire Behaviour
General Objectives of the Course
It is expected that, after attending this certification, the SGIFR agents responsiblefor risk identification, strategy definition, procedures, and organization for preparation, prevention, suppression, and rescue will possess the best knowledge and skills in real-time and anticipatory analysis of fire behavior, particularly through the use of decision support tools. These tools will enable the adoption of the most appropriate decisions based on intensity, severity, potential expansion, suppression capacities, and protection needs, as well as the identification and proposal of continuous improvements.

The previously identified program contents will be relevant to achieving the following learning objectives, which are associated with better suitability for the role:- Knowing how to describe fire behavior
- Understanding the influence of environmental variables on fire behavior
- Identifying fuel typologies based on size, shape, and phenological state
- Ability to acquire and process input data for fire behavior prediction systems
- Predicting and anticipating fire behavior
- Knowing how to identify potential situations of fire interaction, long-distance spotting, and extreme fire behavior
- Relating fire behavior to strategies, tactics, and techniques, and defining the necessary and appropriate resources for fire suppression and protection actions, based on fire behavior, critical situations, and suppression and/or protection capacities and priorities
- Identifying performance indicators and criteria
- Identifying short, medium, and long-term intervention priorities.
