Specialization Course – Introduction to R for ecological data analysis

General Objectives of the Course

Provide students with basic knowledge of R programming for ecological data manipulation and visualization.

Target audience: researchers, MSc and PhD students, technicians and other professionals working with ecology and biology. Basic statistical knowledge is required to attend the course.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The final grade (quantitative grading from 0 to 20 points) will depend on the students' performance throughout the course (20%) and of the final project grade (80%).

Learning Objectives and Intended Skills

At the end of this curricular unit, students should: 1) be able to read, interpret and write readable scripts in R, 2) manipulate vectors, matrices, spatial data and ecological dataframes, 3) understand concepts such as types of variables and functions, 4) understand concepts and use tools for reproducible descriptive and inferential analyses and 5) understand basic concepts and tools for visualizing ecological and spatial data.
