Japanese Language and Culture Course – level VIII
General Objectives of the Course
Building on the knowledge and skills acquired in the courses of Japanese Language and Culture I to VII, this course aims to develop skills in understanding the main issues when using clear, standardised language and familiar subjects such as topics discussed at work, university or school and in leisure time, etc. It is also intended to develop the ability to produce simple, coherent speech on familiar subjects or those of personal interest, such as describing experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions, as well as briefly giving reasons and justifications for an opinion.Admission Requirements
Applicants must be aged 16 years or over. Skills in Japanese at level B1.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, or successful completion of the Course in Japanese Language and Culture VII in the last two years.

In oral language, students will develop the ability to deal with most of the situations that may arise when travelling to a place where the language is spoken, Japan, and be able to enter, without prior preparation, into a conversation about familiar topics of personal interest or relevant to everyday life, such as family, hobbies, work, travel and current affairs, when the rate of speech is slow and clear. They will develop the ability to articulate expressions in a simple way describing experiences and events, dreams, desires and ambitions, as well as explaining or justifying opinions and plans, and telling a story, relating the plot of a book or film and describing reactions. With regard to writing, they will develop vocabulary, grammar and kanji characters to describe a text articulating in a simple way about subjects they know or are interested in, and write personal letters to describe experiences and impressions.Qualification Requirements and Regulations
